The Season of Letting Go
At this time of year, we embrace the beauty in the act of letting go. Unlike any other season, autumn invites us to see the vibrance in what is fading and dying. We feel compelled to seek out this transformation, setting off on drives to witness fall colors splashed across hillsides and valleys, catching glimpses of leaves shifting from vibrant greens to translucent yellows, shimmering golds, rich crimsons, and warm earthy browns. No one ever says, "Look at that tree—it’s dying." Instead, we gaze with awe, moved by its beauty and the wonder of nature’s cycles.
These leaves, though they may be falling, are releasing only the growth of this year. They’ve done their work, capturing energy and nutrients, supporting the life of the tree. Now, the tree is conserving its reserves, ready to rest through the winter and gather strength for spring’s awakening.
And as leaves settle on the ground, their purpose continues. They transform, delivering nutrients down to the soil and providing shelter for life below. In decaying, they enrich the earth and support the seasons to come—a reminder that the cycle of life and decay nurtures beauty, growth, and renewal.
Autumn invites us to reflect on our own seasons of growth and release. As the hot, busy energy of summer fades, we’re given the chance to slow down and look inward. What parts of ourselves can we let go of? What can we release to create space for anew? Will we welcome rest for reflection?
This is a season to shed what no longer serves us, to nourish our own roots and prepare for what lies ahead. Embrace this time to rest, integrate, and ready yourself for the new growth to come.
